Clerkenwell Design Week returns to the subterranean House of Detention, to introduce Platform, a show that recognises some of the world’s most exciting up-and-coming design talent. Exploiting the venue’s atmospheric architecture, Platform creates a stunning backdrop for a curated collection of international and cutting-edge design. Lucas Muñoz Muñoz (Madrid, 1983) is a Spanish designer who has been making and producing since his early twenties. Was then in Madrid, after succeding with a lamp made out of Bic pens, that he founded eStudio enPieza! together with his friend David Tamame. His work there traveled the world and became part of important private and public design collections.
Now, since 2012, he works on his own from the Netherlands and craft develops pieces that take a radical look into the origins of our artificial environment. It is this way how his pieces speak about a New Primitivism as a gathering for originality through an exploration of the origins and a material research about radicality as a quest for finding roots.
As a future vision, we are entering what is becoming to be known as the Anthropocene. This is an age within which man-made technology, constructions and artifacts suppose almost all our context. This context is under an ongoing mutation already so old that we cannot perceive its functional, psychological or emotional foundations. To shed some light over this, his position as a designer becomes relevant if seen as a questioning and redefinition of those foundations.
