Out of the Valley

Out of the Valley is new company set up by 31-year-old designer-maker Rupert McKelvie, based on Dartmoor in Devon. McKelvie, a graduate in 3D Design and Sustainability creates bespoke cabins, furniture and interiors. With a focus on off-grid living, his company’s designs use sustainable materials, particularly locally sourced timbers wherever possible.

Rupert and his small team specialises in designing and building beautiful cabins for off-grid living and holidays. Out of the Valley’s highly efficient yet aesthetic cabin designs draw on traditional building techniques such as timber frames as well as newer (solar, micro-hydro, glazing and other insulation) technologies. And each is fully portable, mounted on a modified hydraulic trailer. Cabin interiors have been designed down the smallest detail, from solid wood kitchens to shower rooms. We believe in the importance of our connection with the environment and aim to engage others with it through our work.

Out of the Valley’s first furniture collection was launched at Clerkenwell Design Week. The collection is typified by clean, simple lines and draws inspiration from the natural world, reflecting the company’s passion for off-grid living.
