Many of the best interior designers undertake design projects of commercial spaces. The results we can all admire in what often becomes the top locations in the restaurant world. Take a look at the pictures of restaurant projects created by some of the best interior designers.
David Collins – Nobu Berkeley Street in London
Opened in august 2005 for Nobu Restaurants, Nobu Berkeley Street has been inspired by nature, by the natural curves and silhouettes of Japanese forests and the curved lines and patterns cast by the branches within them, creating an organic aesthetic. Winner of the “bar of the year” at the quintessentially awards 2010.
India Mahdavi – The Gallery At Sketch in London
India Mahdavi conceived a soothing, monochromatic, strikingly comprehensive interior. The classic, almost bourgeois design invites a deliberately playful contrast with the witty, outré art works; all is most certainly not what it seems. While matching sketch’s delight in the avant-garde, this harmonious disorder breaks with the Gallery’s usual eclecticism.
Jaime Hayon – La Terraza Del Casino in Madrid
An interiors project by Jaime Hayon that explores the balance of an aesthetic link between past and future using his very personal style that connects harmoniously with the imaginative and innovative kitchen of the outstanding chef: Paco Roncero. The project presents new furniture elements created by Hayon in consonance with the restaurant’s needs as well as different hand crafted details, always on the look for that special something that blends art and design.

Thomas Dariel – Lady Bund in Shanghai
Both Asian and European elements have influenced the Asian Fusion interior and the gastronomic concept. Beyond culture, Thomas Dariel also takes up the challenge to create a space with a strong identity that ought to be as vibrant and embezzling in two very distinctive contexts: lively and cozy restaurant in the daytime, intimate and fancy dining lounge during night.
Wonderwall – Ozone in Hong Kong
Located on the top 15 floors of the International Commerce Center (ICC) in Kowloon, the new Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, will be the world’s tallest hotel. Situated on the top floor of this hotel is the bar/lounge, OZONE. Encompassing the majority of the 118th floor and terrace, Katayama’s intention was to create a place that is full of surprises and excitement at every turn, whether one enters from the bar, the bar lounge, the lobby lounge, dinning room or the Tapas bar. Designed around the theme of an “Edenic Experiment” – a man-made environment of nature in an imaginary world, spacial composition, the line of motion and down to every material and finishings were carefully considered.

Concrete – supperclub in Singapore
Concrete created a unifying concept for supperclub that goes beyond interior design. In partnership with supperclub, concrete was actively involved in developing the total concept that consists of eating while lounging, a specific selection of music, and the strategy and spin-off plans for supperclub CDs, supperclub vodka, etcetera. At supperclub, food, drinks, lights and sound are in complete harmony, merging into an atmosphere that offers an escape from the everyday world.
Blacksheep – Nando’s in Ashford, UK
Taking into account the scale of the interior – 10m high ceilings and a total area of 380 sq m – Blacksheep decided to give the restaurant a New York loft feel, combining wood and metalwork accents with a pared-down aesthetic. To make the space feel more intimate, Blacksheep installed a raised platform with booth seating and bespoke timber latticework, as well as designing huge custom-made light-shades.
Blacksheep also created a large-scale bespoke artwork, in the style of Southern African Ndebele tribe, using thousands of painted wooden dowels. Bold and iconic, it hangs in pride of place as you enter the restaurant.
Jouin Manku – Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée in France
The dining room is a gem- designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku – where all is softness of curves, materials and contents. Everywhere is wonder in the remarkable quality of the pieces created with an absolute attention to every detail, a formidable representation of the craftsman’s expertise. The hand of Man at the service of Beauty transcending matter and form.
HOK – La Cava in United Arab Emirates
Inspired by the rich history of wine-making, La Cava is an intimate and exclusive live wine cellar. Here, experienced sommeliers present a palette-testing variety of wines from boutique to classic vineyards. Descending into La Cava via circular wooden stairs, the focus on wine is evidenced by wall-to-wall cabinets nurturing 1,500 premium labels. The Private Reserve caters to exclusive tastes with the rarest of vintages offered in a highly secured part of the cellar.
