The Projects

Jones Lang LaSalle, Hong Kong

A Platinum Shade of Green

From concept to completion in just 12 weeks, and LEED Platinum

Deep impressions are formed as soon as one enters the travertine-and-timber geometry of Jones Lang LaSalle’s new Hong Kong office. Eyes are perhaps first drawn to the striking mosaic of timber that rises up behind the reception counter – and then to the counter itself, whose sharp-edged form contrasts with the softer glow of its powder-coated aluminium finish. Flanking this tableau to the left is the first of a trio of glass-enclosed meeting rooms; and to the right, a spacious pantry whose timber floor underpins an otherwise coolly transparent and simple volume.

Natixis, Hong Kong

Transparent motives

A blend of minimalist form, simple but compelling materials and unlimited transparency defines the new Hong Kong office of Natixis, a corporate and investment bank.

There is more than one way to look at the cloistered architecture of the traditional banking environment. While the design intention may be to establish an atmosphere of hushed security, solidity and permanence, the same highly cellularised interior might sometimes imply something quite different, such as secrecy and opacity. For Natixis, it was these less than desirable implications that spurred a decisive shift in the design of their new Hong Kong office. Replacing the bank’s original three non-consecutive floors in Hong Kong’s Admiralty district, the project for the new office evolved as a direct contrast to the old: a consolidated, contiguous workspace with few internal barriers to communication or circulation.

Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong

A flow of knowledge

This 15,000 sq-ft space is designed as a ‘river of knowledge’ conveying a flow of information to visitors.

With this renovation of their existing space in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) wished to increase the visibility of the location while improving public perception of their organisation.

After analysis of the HKTDC’s operations and client needs, M Moser designers evolved the renewed 15,000 sq-ft space from a ‘river of knowledge’ concept. At the core of the facility is a library and seating area, respectively designed to evoke the complementary qualities of ‘stone’ and ‘water’. The ‘river’ meanwhile runs through the space, conveying a flow of information to visitors.

Swire Properties Management, Hong Kong

The art of sustainability

For Swire Properties, the impending relocation of their management office to One Island East represented considerably more than a straightforward move into a larger, more modern space. For this project, the firm set its sights high.

Literally high, in respect to their desire to maximise the lofty views from the flagship building’s 64th and 65th floors; functionally, in the brief’s specification of both BEAM Platinum certified sustainability and an advanced, open working environment; and, for lack of a better term, spiritually, in terms of how the space would express the Swire Properties brand through a smoothly integrated mix of architecture and art.
