Residential

Residence at Pfannenstiel, Zürich

This residence is situated idyllically at the edge of a wood, visible from afar above the community of Egg near Zurich. Approaching through the generously laid out grounds in which soft green swards contrast with geometrical concrete areas, the visitor is captivated by the fascinating panorama of the mountain chain across the valley. The basic structure of the nineteen-sixties villa consists of three interlocking building cubes. The brief was to design a combined conversion and extension which would remain faithful to the original architectural concept and at the same time fulfill the principle’s requirements in respect of spatial organization and additional room. Viewed from without, the living and eating area with its anthracite hue provides a clearly defined central element in contrast to the remaining living areas. The simplicity of the total concept is given its final expression by means of subtle, uninterrupted details and the use of only a few select materials.

MOST ICONIC PROJECTS:

Margarete Steiff Museum Giengen near Ulm

Margarete Steiff Museum Giengen near Ulm

As the result of a competition between invited participants Ramseier & Associates Ltd. was commissioned to carry out the planning of the new Margarete Steiff Museum in Giengen near Ulm. The concrete and formalistic expression of the elliptical and slightly conical main structure recalls the pragmatism of Richard Serra’s steel sculptures. The museum, which covers 2,400 m² and involved costs of 10 million euros, presents the firm’s history as its main theme. In addition to this the building contains a section demonstrating production methods, a restaurant and a museum shop. The museum was completed punctually in the spring of 2005, in time to celebrate the 125th anniversary of this world famous ‘Button in Ear’ toy manufacturer. In the autumn of 2005 Ramseier & Associates Ltd. received the ‘Exemplary Construction Award which is presented by the Chamber of Architecture of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.

VP Bank Bahnofstrasse in Zürich

VP Bank Bahnofstrasse in Zürich

Ramseier & Associates Ltd. provided interior design services for the VP Bank in the Zurich Bahnhofstrasse which included the customer service zone with reception area and individual consultation rooms. The refined atmosphere of the reception area is generated by the selected materials such as the dark Macassar veneer, the beige North Italian shell limestone and the gold colored undulating wall, together with special lighting effects which accentuate them. Some of the VP Bank’s ‘house colors’ were implemented in the consultation room zone, thus reflecting the company’s corporate identity in the corporate architecture concept.
