Comité De Proyectos is an interior and furniture design studio founded in 2014 by Andrea Flores and Lucía Soto in MexicoCity. This interior designer officer has a special aesthetic approach and encourages the dynamic between the individual and living spaces. They are responsible for multiple inspiring contemporary design projects that have already national and international recognization. Best Interior Designers had the opportunity to interview the founders in an Exclusive talk to get to know more about their career and future in the interior design industry.
Best Interior Designers: How did you get involved in the interior design Industry?
Comité De Proyectos: We both were formed as industrial designers, it was later during our first years of professionals that we had na encounter with interior design. We started to collaborate with independent design firms and then around 2010 we met each other as colleagues working for an interior design firm who also developed their own furniture products; we both felt very inspired of how these two disciplines can combine and copmplement each other. Later in 2014 we decided to go independente and start our own studio.
Best Interior Designers: How would you describe your work style? Do you have any kind of signatures that help to identify your projects?
Comité De Proyectos: We constantly hear that people say: “Oh, that looks a lot like Comité”, we are not sure what it is but it seems there is a common thread going through our work. We usually care a lot about the atmoshopere of the spaces we work with, we tend to design using colours and materials in combination so that they provoque calm and cozyness. We very much like using green (mostly throughthe use of plants) and raw materials, like glass, stone, clay…but we rather not define ourselves, we prefer to be able to excercise our right to change at any time.
Best Interior Designers: Being in love with our work is always the key to achieving better results. Are you in love with this job? What do you love most about being an interior designer?
Comité De Proyectos: We very much love doing what we do, having the ability to lead a transformation process which is more obvious on the outside but that happens inside our clientes as well is what we enjpy the most. The human contact, the interaction that arises from the process of design and the empathic process we go through is what we enjoy the most.
Best Interior Designers: What is your philosophy on design and life?
Comité De Proyectos: For me (Lucia) life and design are both an ongoing process of getting to know yourself. They requiere for you to be constantly in touch with your feelings and motivations, learning to listen to your intuition and being able to communicate it in a way that not only considers the other but perhaps hopefully improves the quality of life of those around you.
Best Interior Designers: All artists need some inspiration to work, and interior designers are artists too. So, what or who really inspires you?
Comité De Proyectos: We get inspirartion from daily life, we observe the uses and customs of people surrounding us and the various forms that aesthecits take… sometimes what is most alien to us has a richness that is difficult to appreciate at first glance.
Best Interior Designers: How important is a perfect chemistry between you and your clients to achieve the best results?
Comité De Proyectos: It is crucial, we take this in consideration very much; it is clear that when there is a sense of connection between client and designer work flows smooth; nevertheless it is empathy that helps connect even when the first contact is not as easy as we would like it to be.
Best Interior Designers: Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about?
Comité De Proyectos: We are currently working in three diferente projects, very different from each other them that we are very excited about. One is a leasing apartment tower located in La Roma neighborhoodm, the biggest project we have been involved with and hopefully will see the light on early 2023. The next one is a Chinese restaurant located in Mexico City, we are delighted investigating the Chinese culture and also having a lot of fun traducing and “mexicanizing” the Chinese elements, hopefully this one will be ready the first quarter of 2022. The last one is a small residential apartemtn. We got lucky enoght to work hand in hand with a close friend so we´ve had creative freedom, customizing almost everything and getting to design the furntiute as well. This one will be ready early 2022.
