The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine

The magazine “Interior Design” one of the most important magazines in interior design, has selected, for the 8th year in a row  the best projects and products of the year.

I just saw the list and the winners and “Best Interior Designers” will share with you some designs that won in various categories.

We start with the “Product” category. The list of subcategories and products submitted is big, so we will show you some furniture designs  that made an impression.

Olithas table and bench Landscape Forms – Winner | Outdoor/Tables

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”Olithas is an outdoor table and bench with thin fluted cast concrete tops and seats supported by tubular steel geometry. The name Olithas combines the Spanish word “Olita” (translation: tiny wave) with the Greek word “Lithos” (stone) and aptly describes the form and elements of this graceful outdoor furniture. The cast stone slabs appear light, fluid, and seem to float, and the fluted form evokes that of a classic column. Using cast concrete and steel pays homage to the international-style architecture of Latin America where designer Efrain Velez was born and raised. \n\nThe fluted pattern on the underside of Olithas concrete tops and seats provides a universal language in form, a structure and physical strength. These elements are made of Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) a technology that enables the molding of uniquely thin, strong 1 inch slabs. The geometric steel bases of seamless precision-welded, ground and finished inch steel tubing provide robust support but sit lightly in the landscape. The radius of this support tubing fits into the wave pattern of the horizontal elements to provide a complete integration of materials. Table and bench tops and bases are joined together by jewel-like connectors of cast stainless steel. A gentle upward curve at the back of bench is aesthetically pleasing, ergonomic, and clearly distinguishes the seat back from front.”

Atlas Table Design Within Reach – Winner | Furniture: Residential/Side Tables

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”“In creating this collection, designer Brad Ascalon was inspired by Atlas, the Greek mythological character condemned for eternity to carry the heavens on his shoulders. Translating this into a physical object, Ascalon was intrigued by the challenge of making an elegant frame that could carry the weight of solid stone. Atlas is available as a coffee or side table.”

Link Dining Table AKMD – Winner | Furniture: Residential/Dining Tables

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”“The Link Dining Table is a modular system comprising patinaed cast aluminum and steel components and can be adapted for use with any size table. Table tops are made to order at our studio in Chicago and are available in an extensive range of species and finishes, as well as whole-log book-matched slabs.”

Projects

Now we go for the most important category, in my opinion: Projects. In here you can find some beautiful interior designs that won in the categories that they competed.

Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou Tonychi and associates, Guangzhou, China – Winner | Hospitality: International Hotel

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”“With a stunning setting in one of the city’s most exciting neighborhoods, the Mandarin Oriental offers the most spacious accommodation in Guangzhou.Vast floor-to-ceiling windows provide dramatic views of glittering skyline, while our 263 sumptuous rooms and elegant suites are the epitome of modern Chinese comfort and luxury.”

Capo Restaurant Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, Shanghai, China – Winner | Hospitality: Restaurant: Historic Renovation

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”“Neri&Hu’s design intent for Capo was to embody the spirit of the Basilica within this cavernous space carved out of the attic of a 1911 building located on the historic Bund of Shanghai. Rather than default to an open plan configuration, Neri&Hu makes the conscious decision to carve up the restaurant into a series of distinct rooms at various scales, each with a unique character, and as such, capturing spaces as vignettes, whilst still embodying a consistent vision through materiality and spatial sequencing.”

Harlow Meyer Davis Studio, New York City, US- Winner | Hospitality: Restaurant: Fine Dining

“The best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine”

As you can see these are some of the best furniture and interior designs of 2013 by Interior Design Magazine. “Best Interior Designers” will continue to show some of the great designs of 2013 and predictions for 2014. Enjoy! Happy holidays!
