Starting with the Production Design category. Five films are nominated: The Favourite, Mary Poppins Returns, Roma, Black Panther and First Man! “The Favourite” is one of the favourites to take this Oscar home! The head designer of this film is Fiona Crombie, a stylish creator who gave Yorgos Lanthimos a sumptuous period playpen for this 18th Century Royal Court that has a simple but stunning overall look!

Other top nominees include Roma and Black Panther. The duo Eugenio Caballero and Barbara Enriquez made it possible for top director Alfonso Cuarón to recreate the 1971 Mexico City of his youth in painstaking detail, and that’s why they share a nomination for their amazing and highly skilled work in the stunning Netflix drama Roma. Hannah Beachler head the Production Design department of Black Panther, a top blockbuster that produced some stunning visuals for this film.4

The other two nominees aren’t as strong as the other three, but they are still forced to be reckoned with. For First man, Nathan Crowley and Kathy Lucas went back to the 60’s to chronicle the visual content of the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, creating a spectacular scenery that works perfectly. The other nominees are  John Myhre and Gordon Sims for their work in the fantasy drama Mary Poppins Returns, a stunning project of Walt Disney Pictures. This duo managed to recreate the stunning style of the original Mary Poppins and extended it to the Depression Era that takes place 25 years after the events of the first movie!

Let’s move on to the Best Costume Design category! Like in the Production Design category, The Favourite and Black Panther are the main favourites to win the Oscar for Best Costume Designer. The talented Ruth E. Carter is the Head Costume Designer of the futuristic Black Panther and her futuristic costume approach earned some praises from the Film Industry, will it be enough for her to win the Oscar?
