On the border between Europe and the Atlantic Ocean, there’s a small country which very much looks like the tip of Europe. Right next to it there’s a slightly bigger country that seems to get much more attention from the rest of the world (in actuality, it is much bigger, but it was a euphemism to soften the blow). Today we welcome you to the unassuming, but ever gleaming, country of Portugal. In the manner of a quick fix, we’re going to explore two young but promising Architecture studios that have been shaking up the Kingdom of Lusitania.
Sami Arquitectos was founded in 2005 by Inês Vieira da Silva and Miguel Vieira, and have been recognized in the area as a promising and distinctive studio. They have garnered such awards as X BIAU – Bienal Ibero-Americana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, 2016 (Madrid, São Paulo), the European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention, 2015 (Barcelona), and many others. They’re definitely worth to check out!

Our second featured Architectural Studio shows an inspiring scope in some of their projects. The studio currently comprises of four partners: Francisco Garcia de Freitas, Luís Costa Valente, Paulo Vieira Borralho, and Rui Velho Didier. While not boasting as many awards (nor being as young) as the previously mentioned studio, Atelier Rua has been blazing trails as of late. Here are some examples of their ambitious projects to get you interested in their work.
