Ikea Festival Show took part on Another fantastic year at Milan Design Week. From 6-12 June, IKEA brought our curiosity and passion for creating a better everyday life to Italy’s design capital. Check out highlights from each day of the festival below.

IKEA brought the ‘ IKEA Festival Show ’ to BASE in Milan for Milan Design Week 2022. The festival featured a dynamic schedule of events and immersive experiences to showcase the future of retail and design, explore how the relationship between people and their homes has evolved, and show how improving your everyday life can create for a more mindful home.

Welcome to a week filled to the brim with interesting design talks, fun product launches and lots of live music.

Day 1

Meet our host Amie Bramme Sey as she presents the IKEA Festival Show from Milan. Highlights include a tour of the new ÖGONBLICK exhibition with IKEA’s Marcus Engman and Ingvar Kamprad’s Milan tips…from 1960! Managing Director of IKEA of Sweden Frederika Inger talks trends and we pay a home visit to meet UK-based artist Charli Devon.

Day 2

The programme’s packed with inspiration, from the new book “Us & Our Planet” to the talented Latin American creators behind an exciting upcoming collaboration. As IKEA commemorates its one millionth home visit, enjoy a recap of the very first from 1960. Designer Ilse Crawford talks about luxurious home fragrances at a low price and we round off with a stellar evening performance from Ghali.

Day 3

First, a tour of Milan and then designer Mikael Axelsson teases the new collaboration with Marimekko. VARMBLIXT designer Sabine Marcelis talks light and Johan Ejdemo and Akanksha Deo Sharma discuss democratic design. Axel Boman opens up about home and the IKEA Museum reminisces about IKEA pianos from the 70s. We finish with a fantastic show from Jamie XX.

Day 4

Highlights include glimpses of the long-awaited collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, the H22 event in Helsingborg and London’s Atelier 100. Composer and sound artist Franz Edvard Cedrins puts sound to vision, Teodor Wolgers tickles the ivories of a 70s IKEA piano and we pay a home visit to the Netherlands. Finally, make some noise for Swedish rock band Viagra Boys.

Day 5

The designers behind the cosy compact apartments on show at the festival site take us on a tour and share their small space tips. An initiative about design, immigration and refugees is introduced and we delve into the birth of democratic design. Soo welcomes us into her home in Seoul and we sign off our last show from Milano with a performance by Seinabo Sey.

Launching in 2023, Inspired by the richness of Latin American heritage, we’re collaborating with nine creatives for our upcoming collection to celebrate life and socialising through design, art, food, and architecture.


Bastua Ikea

IKEA teamed up with the Finnish brand known for their colourful prints to create a collection inspired by our Nordic design heritage and sauna culture. This collection features exclusive original prints from Marimekko. Stay tuned for the full collection launch in March 2023.

Varmblixt Led Wall Lamps

Together with designer Sabine Marcelis IKEA explores the potential of direct and indirect light at home, and its positive impact on people’s emotional wellbeing. VARMBLIXT launches spring 2023.


Ikea Festival

IKEA teamed up with electronic music artists Swedish House Mafia to explore how to make music creators unleash their creativity at home. The OBERGRÄNSAD collection includes a record player, desk for producing music, a lounge chair and much more. The full collection drops fall 2022.
