Best Interior Designers had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Anthony Low, head of design of AJM Interiors.

CAREER

Best Interior Designers: How did you get involved in the interior design Industry?

Anthony Low: I love art and design since I was in high school so I further my study in Art &design after high school. After a year of design foundation study, I decided to took major in Interior Architecture and started my design journey

Best Interior Designers: What do you love most about being an interior designer?

Anthony Low: I love my job. Seeing an empty space transform into a tasteful functional space is like bringing life to it. This makes a lot of satisfaction to me.

Best Interior Designers: What is your philosophy on design and life?

Anthony Low: Design must be rooted in reality, without a deep understanding of the end user‘s request & requirement, any decision a designer makes is a shot in the dark

INSPIRATION

Best Interior Designers: Keeping up to date on all the trends is essential for anyone who wants to conquer this market. In what ways do you keep current with new trends?

Anthony Low: The internet is the key to the information of today. I am following a few top interior design trends and product lines pages.

Best Interior Designers: All artists need some inspiration to work, and interior designers are artists too. So, what or who really inspires you?

Anthony Low: Definitely travel and photography. I like to travel around and do photography, these make me see things from different angles and bring inspiration to my works.

Best Interior Designers: Inspiration is something that pushes everyone to create unique things. What makes you see the world in a different way?

Anthony Low: Photography makes me see things in a very different way. For example, I can see the unique texture of nature from a close-up macro shot.

Best Interior Designers: If you had to pick one project around the world that you wish was made by you, which one would it be?

Anthony Low: This is a very interesting question. Google office, has made a new trend of today’s office that everyone loves to work in there.

PROJECTS

Best Interior Designers: How important is a perfect chemistry between you and your clients to achieve the best results?

Anthony Low: Great communication and built a good rapport with clients.

Best Interior Designers: Choosing the best pieces to compose a project can be the secret to getting the best overall result. Although it seems easy, this is a delicate task and needs full attention on time to execute. Do you have some tips for those who do not know well how to start a challenge like this?

Anthony Low: Space planning. Every design is started from a layout plan, you need to get the layout works before u can start doing the design.

Best Interior Designers: Do you think working with teams in interior design is better or worse than working alone? Why?

Anthony Low: I always believe that working with a team of passionate and energetic designers is the key to success.

FUTURE

Best Interior Designers: Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about?

Anthony Low: We are currently working on a beachfront hotel project upgrading, stay tuned for our latest design works

Best Interior Designers: What has been your greatest accomplishment as a designer? What goals do you have for the future?

Anthony Low: Being a designer that wears multiple hats including marketing and project management.

Best Interior Designers: Do you have a favorite project or a favorite story about one of your projects?

Anthony Low: A small-scale property developer approached us because facing poor sales and they have a limited budget to set up a show unit. We completed the show unit with their tight budget and all the units are sold out in a month after the launch of the show unit. This brought us a sense of achievement.
