Anji Connell is an interior designer since 1986. Before she has moved to Hong Kong, she worked with Smallbone of Devizes in London, which projects and manufacture high quality furniture. When she arrived to Hong Kong, she worked for one year in an Interiors Company in Hong Kong and after that she set up her own business. Her career has been busy and varied. She has an extensive client list encompassing both commercial, residential and marine projects.
Most recently Anji has completed a Boutique Hotel and is currently working on several interior and landscape projects in Hong Kong, Shanghai and UK. Anji is also graduated in Garden & Landscape Design at the prestigious Inchbald School of Design in 2011. Now, she is also working on her master as well as current design and landscaping projects, interior styling and writing.
Despite not having anyone of the family involved in the design business, Anji always knew she wanted to work within a creative industry. She relished art, design and photography at school and she was always designing and creating things, clothes, knitwear, papier-mâché, jewellery, cakes, and sweets. Moreover, she was forever changing her parents’ house around, and plumping up cushions as soon as someone moved.
She believes that her tastes and styles have been influenced in some way, when she came to Hong Kong, because she had contact with new cultures and lived different experiencies.
The style that best describes her is modern eclectic, mixing styles, materials and textures. She loves unusual, sculptural pieces and contemporary art. She have been collecting since 1989, especially Chinese Contemporary art, and they would have to be her favourite objects. She also says “I find that perfection in the details, in the shell can give me as much satisfaction and enjoyment as an object or a designer piece”.
Anji Connell Interior Design have reached the shortlist with a contemporary Hong Kong apartment, shortlisted for the residential property Asia and Oceania award in the International Design and Architecture Awards 2013.
