With a 40-year career spanning three continents, Phillip Silver has become renowned for his unmistakable style. The Australian-born designer launched his first showroom in Sydney in 1982, followed quickly with the opening of offices in Perth and Hong Kong. In the early part of his career, Silver became known for his understated, elegant style and quickly distinguished himself from his peers with his easy-going professional attitude and ability to get things done quickly and efficiently.

After winning a worldwide design competition to redesign the Hayman Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef, Silver’s career leapt forward. The $400 million dollar project eventually won Conde Nast’s top award for “Best Resort in the World” and launched Silver to an international audience. With this success in hand, Silver moved his design firm’s headquarters to Hong Kong and spent the next two decades working on dozens of high-profile corporate clients throughout the Asia Pacific – including Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, The Regent Hotel Group and The Beaufort Hotel Group.
Throughout this busy period, Silver began designing and manufacturing his own furniture. Originally, he created individual pieces to fit a specific need for his projects but it became so distinctive and appealing that before long major department stores in Australia and Hong Kong carried his line.
Having always admired what he refers to as the “American Style”, in 2010, Silver moved to San Francisco and established Phillip Silver Design in the United States. He now works on projects throughout the United States and Internationally. In what he sees as the third act of his career, Silver has shifted focus from large, corporate clients to residential projects and boutique hotels.
