Recently, Wearstler took on the challenge to design an sophisticated L.A. House for a young, free-spirited family. Join Best Interior Designers and discover this spectacular design that showcases a true ocean of color.
The house is a Spanish-Style bungalow spec home near West Hollywood that the owners chose for its open layout and blank-canvas appeal. The owners, a young couple, gave Wearstler a complete creative freedom but told her that they wanted lots of color in the design. This clearly wasn’t a problem for the famous designer!
To add a bit of architectural uniqueness, Wearstler had a few tricks on her deck. She transformed the rectangular front door into an elegant arch. The switchback staircase was also refashioned and lined with brass rails, and doorways into the kitchen and dining room were framed in Silver Portoro stone.
These two details are very simple but look extremely elegant. Wearstler also applied a grid of Cannon/Bullock wallpaper sheets in a variety of colors to walls throughout the house, creating the illusion of rooms in the airy, open interior and giving the whole place a Technicolor glow.
On the walls, Wearstler paired several paintings created by one of the house owners with pieces by Op Art maestro John Townsend and rising San Francisco talent Jonathan Anzalone. Rather than use the owner’s creations throughout the house, though, Wearstler successfully proposed turning a few of them into painterly rugs fabricated by the Rug Company.
Wearstler’s fearless furnishing choices spoke to the owner’s dynamism and the end result was stunning. The successful creative marriage between Wearstler and the House Owners produce a stunning and elegant home that matches the bright style of Los Angeles.
