Biography:
Born in the United Kingdom, Katharine Pooley was educated at St Mary´s School and INSA University in Lyon, France. With a vast experience in Hong Kong, working in Morgan Stanley and Barclays Bank, Katherine Pooley also lived in Vietnam, Singapore, Bahrain, returning to London 2 decades later. Katharine is married to Dan Voyce. They have two children, Charlie and Jack.
An innate sense of adventure has defined Katharine’s life and shaped her design philosophy. Katharine is an intrepid traveller and has visited more than 150 countries. However, what may come as surprising is the fact she has summited many of the world’s highest mountains, driven a team of dogs on a sled to the North Pole and crossed the Sahara on horseback, so one begins to form a picture of a truly original and adventurous interior designer.
Background and Realizations:
The Far Eastern influences are explained by living and working in Bahrain, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam. Returning to England after more than two decades abroad to pursue her passion for interior design, Katharine’s talent for understanding and marrying diverse cultural influences with elegant interiors quickly gained her a following among London’s international design cognoscenti. After establishing her design office and eponymous boutique in Knightsbridge and a prestigious concession in Harrods, Katharine has worked tirelessly to be at the top of her profession.
Recent London assignments include properties in many of London’s most prestigious addresses, the interiors for the Royal and VIP Lounges at Heathrow’s Terminal 5, a large apartment in the heart of Singapore, a chalet in Verbier and palaces in Kuwait and Qatar. She has won two esteemed Decorex awards and is consistently featured in the Andrew Martin Top 100 international interior designers.

The Most Iconic Projects:
Surrounded by Glenisla’s stunning scenery, Forter Castle was originally built in 1560 and enjoys a history as rich as the countryside in which it sits. Destroyed by the Duke of Argyll in 1640, it has been completely restored using traditional materials. Katharine Pooley has transformed the interior into one of luxury and comfort. Forter boasts all modern amenities and occupies five floors, each reached by a stone spiral staircase.

Glamorous furnishings and statement pieces are used in Katharien Pooley | Hyde Park Property. A highlight of the property is the spectacular dressing room which is designed to store and display the client’s clothes and accessories. The centrepiece of the design is a glass-topped chest containing a cream suede-lined tray which displays twenty-five pairs of sunglasses. Ron Arad spiral bookshelf in the kitchen and a stunning crystal and glass chandelier by Barlas Baylar in the entrance, add character to the interior.
Interesting Facts about Katharine Pooley
As a girl, Katharine was inspired by Kate Adie, and went on to study French and journalism at Lyon University in France. However, she didn’t end up in journalism, but moved into the high-flying world of banking instead.
Apart from her passion for interiors and travel, Katharine loves cookery. She has attended several prestigious cookery courses, namely Cordon Bleu and Prue Leith. In 2003 she published a travel diary cookbook, A Taste of My World.
Katharine devotes much of her spare time to mountaineering, her dream being to climb Mount Everest. When she is not travelling around the world, she enjoys sports and loves animals, especially her dogs. She divides her time between Asia, London and Scotland. The family home in Scotland is Forter Castle.
Katharine Pooley is a member of the SBID – Society of British & International Design and IIDA – International Interior Design Association.
