RESTAURANTS

Hartnett Holder & Co Lime Wood New Forest

Martin Brudnizki Design Studio was asked to design Hartnett Holder & Co, the new restaurant at Lime Wood Hotel in the heart of the New Forest National Park. The restaurant is a collaboration between Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett and Lime Wood’s Head Chef, Luke Holder. The design took inspiration from the building’s Regency architecture and from the restaurant’s locally sourced, simple dishes. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio introduced a panelled, dark-stained oak bar topped with an Irish green marble to the dining space and bespoke furniture upholstered in rough linens and patterned fabrics to bring an unpretentious sense of English eccentricity.

Pizza East Portobello in London

Martin Brudnizki Design Studio worked with Nick Jones to create his second Pizza East restaurant; this time located on Portobello Road in Notting Hill. Consistent with the informal feel of Pizza East Shoreditch, vintage items such as the tin ceiling, glazed tiles, reclaimed timber panelling and a variety of found tables and chairs were sourced from New York. The result is a buzzy atmosphere in line with the lively neighborhood surroundings.

PRIVATE CLUBS

The Club At The Ivy in London

Located over three floors above the famous Ivy restaurant, Martin Brudnizki created this private member’s club to be a warm and comfortable space.  Housing an impressive collection of young and established British artists’ works, the design of the club was based on the 1930s style of the Ivy restaurant below.  The Studio took timber panelling through the 2nd and 3rd floors and created a more contemporary interior for the 4th floor. All furniture found throughout the space was custom designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio who also collaborated with Paola Petrobelli on the ceiling light fixtures. For the entrance lobby, a 1970s Venini chandelier was found and restored to greet members and their guests on entry to the club.

Wentworth Club in London

Richard Caring asked Martin Brudnizki to redesign the restaurant, bar and lounge of this famous golf club. As the brief was to inject some glamour into the spaces, the Studio created a new champagne bar using beautifully patterned plaster wall panels coupled with  an onyx and white lacquered bar with brushed brass detailing. For the dining room, mirrored wall panels were installed which had been carved in a floral pattern and subsequently painted in gold and silver colours with their backgrounds finished in white and gold leaf to give the room an amazing sense of depth.  Beautifully handcrafted furniture and lighting was used throughout in keeping with the look and feel requested.

RETAIL

Cowshed Spa in Miami

The Cowshed Spa in Miami forms part of Soho Beach House located on Collins Avenue. In conjunction with Nick Jones, Martin Brudnizki designed this spa to mimic the feel of a rustic American barn. Achieved through the use of materials such as reclaimed timber flooring, wall panelling and vintage furniture throughout, the final creation is a well-worn and welcoming refuge to relax and recharge amidst the buzz of Miami.

Browns London

On request from Mrs Burstein, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio redesigned this women’s store on South Molton Street. The Studio worked closely with the Client’s team to create a contemporary and timeless, yet relaxing environment using materials such as limed oak, lacquered panels and blackened steel – all set off by the subtlest shade of pink on the walls.  Bespoke rugs designed by Christine Van der Hurd were chosen for the first floor and all furniture and fittings were custom designed to display the retail collections with a feeling of understated luxury.

RESIDENTIAL

The Palladio In London

Taking inspiration from the rich character of the Covent Garden Piazza, The Palladio apartments embody the very idea of curated luxury. Merging functionality and style with high-quality finishes that are practical yet timeless and chic, The Palladio is designed around an exciting lifestyle. Natural light bathes the space through the large windows, acting as an asset in which subtle features such as deep cornices, timber floors and marble surfaces anchor themselves. 45 East 22nd Street Show Flat And Sales Centre in New York

Tasked with creating interiors for luxury residential development, 45 East 22nd Street, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio first created the show flat and sales centre. As the sixty-five storey apartment building is located in the heart of one of the most iconic and culturally sophisticated neighborhoods in Manhattan—the Flatiron District at Madison Square Park – the apartments take inspiration from the surrounding area and combine a pre-war sensibility for detail and materiality with a modern sense of space and light. Inspiring quotes from Martin Brudnizki

The first building I really remember growing up was Stockholm Public Library. Designed by Gunnar Asplund it has all the monumentality of a classical design, but the ornament has been reduced to its most abstract geometrical forms. It’s a building on the cusp of modernity.

I wish I’d designed the Olivetti Showroom (in St. Marks Square, Venice) by Carlo Scarpa, it really redefined the relationship between nature and architecture. Blending the exterior and interior seamlessly, the design is perfectly balanced.

The Sir John Soane’s Museum in London is a constant source of inspiration. He was the master at using space and light and his interior detailing was way ahead of its time.

A historical building that I admire is Castle Drogo. It’s fascinating to see a design that combines the unexpected so harmoniously. It was designed by Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century and manages to combine Tudor as well as minimalist touches. However for me, the elegant interior is what makes it really special.

I have a couple of Kaare Klint Safari chairs. They are everything you want in a chair, comfortable, functional and they just look better and better with age.

The Most Iconic Projects

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

Following in the footsteps of The Ivy Market Grill, the London Studio designed The Ivy Chelsea Garden. Offering a slice of an idyllic English garden, all hidden away behind the busy King’s Road, the tranquil space has been designed to give Londoners a space to rest and escape the bustle of the city. With a colour palette of green, orange and cream, mirrored wall panels and botanical themed vintage artwork, alongside the lush foliage of the restaurant’s outside area, The Ivy Chelsea Garden has become a new destination for those wanting to be close to nature in the heart of Chelsea.

Soho Beach House

Described as the place where ‘grit meets glamour, hotel meets private club’ Soho Beach House is located on Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami. Nick Jones requested Martin Brudnizki to work with him on this 80,000 square foot hotel and private member’s club with over 40 bedrooms, three rooftop suites, two large pools, beach cabanas, screening room, Cecconi’s restaurant, and an expansive Cowshed Spa. Drawing inspiration from Cuba and Latin America for the palette of weathered bright colours and patterns, materials used in the project include salvaged timber from Wyoming, encaustic floor tiles from a church in Spain, vintage barber chairs from upstate New York and many reclaimed fixtures throughout the space. Within the hotel suites, one-off vintage pieces were sourced from antique dealers on the West Coast of America, while the bathrooms were designed in a classic British style. The bars and restaurants were created to exude a rustic Latin charm through the use of aged, ‘roughed-up’ materials, dark timber elements and warm, passionate colours.
