Charlotte Moss for Soicher-Marin
Charlotte’s collection of decorative framed art for Soicher-Marin was introduced at the 2012 High Point Market (October 13-18). Charlotte joins Thom Filicia, Mariette Gomez, Jamie Drake, Suzanne Kasler, Richard Mishaan, and others in bringing their unique points of view, their eye and their style to the world of decorative framed art.
Gardening a la Francaise…
As in most things French: style, artistry, and romance are paramount. All of these attributes are evident in their garden plans and parterres, as well as in the arts and literature. All are executed with equally accomplished hands. I have visited gardens from the Cote d’Azur to the Dordogne. We have captured a few of these in my first collection for Soicher Marin.
I have never visited a garden where I have not come away with a practical lesson, inspiration or images to savor, regardless of its size. To accompany these garden photos, I have selected French garden plans and trophies, – engraved compositions of gardening elements. Never has working in the garden and all the tools needed looked as romantic as they do in these 18th Century engravings. The plans, the tools to create, and the photos depicting the final result complete our gardening story.
While the landscape of France was being imagined, art and literature reflected a similar philosophy. I have selected a few fables from the literature of French classics- the fables of Jean Le Fontaine. If one can imagine, there were 239 moral fables all originally intended for teaching the young prince, later to be crowned King Louis XIV.
There is always more to learn, and I am always looking forward to the next trip, more gardens, more plans, more lessons… a la Francaise.
