Antonio Citterio was born in Meda in 1950, started his design office in 1972, and graduated in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic in 1975.Between 1987 and 1996 he worked in association with Terry Dwan and, together, they created buildings in Europe and Japan.

In 1999, with Patricia Viel, he founded “Antonio Citterio and Partners”, that in September 2009 changed the name to “Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners”. The studio, with headquarters in Milan, operates at international level developing complex long-term projects, all scales and in synergy with a qualified network of specialist consultants. Among the several typologies of projects realized are: urban plans, residential and commercial complexes, industrial establishments, conservative restructuring of public buildings and planning of spaces for work, offices, showrooms and hotels. The firm is also active in the sector of corporate communication and implements projects for temporary events and exhibitions.

Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel Interiors during the past 20 years has executed interior designs for residential and commercial complexes, retail outlets, work spaces, offices, showrooms and hotels. The company, a spin-off of Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, has a strong expertise in providing detailed project documentation covering the interior of a building, from interior fit-out to bespoke millwork elements and furniture. Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel Interiors method of working is in most cases different from the traditional work method of interior design firms. Different disciplines communicate and collaborate on each project of our office in order to keep it consistent on all levels. Recent projects include: the Bulgari Hotels in Milan and London and the W Hotel in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation). Projects currently under construction include a large-size integrated design project in Doha (Qatar), residential units in the new Elbphilharmonie building in Hamburg (Germany) and the new Mandarin Oriental hotel in Milan (Italy).

There were published numerous monographs about Antonio Citterio’s works, for example: in 2004 Electa published the monograph “Antonio Citterio Industrial design”, and in 2005, Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi’s monograph “Antonio Citterio” was published by Edilstampa. In addition in 2007 Skira published the monograph “Antonio Citterio. Architettura e Design.”

The designer earned many design awards. In 1987 and in 1994 Antonio Citterio received the Compasso d’Oro-ADI award. Since 2006 he has been an architectural design instructor at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. In 2008 he was honored by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce of London, which gave him the title of Royal Designer for Industry.

Antonio Citterio is currently working in the industrial design sector with Italian and foreign companies such as Ansorg, Arclinea, Axor-Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Fusital, Hermès, Iittala, Kartell, Maxalto, Sanitec Group – Pozzi Ginori, Technogym, Tre Più and Vitra.
