Born in 1977 in Toronto, Canada, Oki Sato studied architecture at Waseda University in Tokyo. He obtained his Master’s degree in 2002 and in the same year established in the capital of Japan the nendo studio. Only two years later he has taken on the international stage with second office in Milan.

Nendo, meaning ‘modelling clay’, expresses his desire of having certain flexibility and the ability to reinvent himself. The designer takes his inspiration from Japanese uncluttered style to create a language of his time. The philosophy of Oki Sato is reflected in his designs, by which he attempts transforms the interactions of people with the objects surrounding them by creating a parenthesis in their life. To the characteristic shapes of his designs he always adds a touch of humour and conviviality.

Oki Sato received numerous prizes: Good Design Award, German Design Award, Elle Deco International Design Award and was named 2012 Designer of the Year by British magazine Wallpaper*.

We can admire several of his creations in museums – the Museum of Modern Art of New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

The designers participated in may collaborations with renown companies – Cappellini, Moroso, DePadova, Starbucks, Puma and, recently, BoConcept. Visitors of Maison & Objet Paris 2015 can enjoy the chocolate range created by Nendo with a good coffee, nestled in the cocoa-colored furnishings in CHOCOLATEXTURE LOUNGE.
