Let’s start with the Design Events! The main design event of Milan is the Salone del Mobile.Milano! This event will be held from 17th to 22nd April with a packed programme of innovations and appointments for the more than 300,000 expected visitors from over 165 different countries. So you can expect to find luxury brands like Boca do Lobo, Fendi Casa or DelightFULL.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile or ISaloni is held concurrently with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, the EuroCucina /FTK (Technology For the Kitchen) and the International Bathroom Exhibition. This event will also be held during the Milan Design Week or “Fuorisalone”.
During the popular Fuorisalone, the Design Event equivalent to the Fashion Week, many of the stunning design places in Milan will feature longer opening hours. It’s expected that the most important shops and companies located in the design districts of Milan will introduce their new collections and host special events with live music and entertainment for a totally unmissable extravaganza.
You can experience the Fuorisalone at its fullest in the main design districts of the city, namely Porta Venezia, San Babila, Brera, Tortona, The 5 Vie, Sant’Ambrogio and San Gregorio. We especially recommend Tortona, the original Design District of Milan that usually showcase the biggest names from the design industry and it’s the current home of the main design stores of the city.
We also recommend Brera, the hipster district of Milan that boasts a dense concentration of antique shops, galleries, showrooms and prestigious locations. Even if you visit Milan after the Milan Design Week, Brera and Tortona are two districts you can´t miss in Milan if you are a design aficionado.
Later in the year, Milan will host another major design event, the HOMI Milano. This event is held twice a year and the next showing will take place from the 14th to the 17th of September of 2018. This popular showcase event of home décor trends has been gaining popularity in Italy and in Europe.
In terms of major design events, Milan is also well known for two specific and widely popular events: the two The Fashion Weeks in the Spring and in Autumn. As one of the Top Fashion Capitals of Europe, Milan is a fashion mecca so no wonder it has two dominant Fashion Week events, one for every season.
But where should you stay? As one of the main cities of Italy and has one of the most popular Tourist Destinations of Europe, Milan has also a whole variety of luxury hotels for you to stay at. Besides Design Events and Luxury Hotels, Milan is also the home of centuries of history. To experience Art and History, you must pay a visit to some of the hundreds of museums, cathedrals, shops, gardens, historic places and art galleries of Milan. One of the top museums of Milan is the historical Castello Sforzesco. It’s in the Pinacoteca of this castle that you can find Michelangelo’s Rondanini Pieta, one of this art icon most well-known works of art!
You can’t visit Milan without visiting the Duomo di Milano. It’s like visiting Paris without going to the Eiffel Tour or the Sacre Coeur. It is hard not to know anything about Duomo di Milano, not only because it is the fourth largest cathedral in the world, but mainly because it’s Milan’s main touristic and cultural attraction. Even though it was started in 14th century, the final touches were made during the reign of Napoleon. Through the centuries this church has been the scene of countless social cultural and religious events. It’s a place of history, religion, art and Italian power.
If you prefer to do some shopping, but still want to visit a historic place, then why not mix both in the same place? For that, you can do that if you visit the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It’s one of the most popular shopping destinations as well as one of the most beautiful galleries in the world. It was completed in 1867 and was meant to represent the union between the church and the state, after the revolution of 1848. Even though two days before the inauguration, designer Giuseppe Mangoni felt to his death from the top of the steel and glass roof, it didn’t affect its popularity at all.
