Tsao & McKown is formed by an eclectic group of accomplished individuals. Studio specialized in all kinds of design in a broad sense. From urban plans, through architecture of private homes, office complexes, museums, interiors, furniture, bathtubs to table settings and lipstick. Studio has been founded in 1985 in New York by architect Calvin Tsao and designer Zack McKown.
Calvin Tsao, a graduate of Harvard University, is recognized as one of the most original voices in contemporary architecture, drawing from his own experience of diverse cultures and a lively engagement with a variety of art forms. He serves on the Board of The American Academy in Rome, and is an active board member and President Emeritus of The Architectural League of New York.
Zack McKown, a graduate of University of South Carolina and Harvard is widely recognized for his innovations in the fields of urban design, architecture, interiors, furniture and product design. In 2009, he helped to found desigNYC, a not-for-profit whose mission is to help match deserving community groups and other not-for-profits in need of design services with professional designers willing to offer pro-bono services to help reinvigorate local communities in need.
In 2012 Calvin Tsao along with his partner Zack McKown received a Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) Legacy Award and in 2009 the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Interior Design.
This year Architectural Digest chose Tsao & McKown for their famous AD100 list of great interior design and architecture professionals!
